Why is it important to take care of your health?
I’ve seen a lot of people say things like:
“Why do we even bother to take care of our health? We’re all going to die from something anyway!” or “Life is so unpredictable. You can spend your whole life taking care of your health, and then, when you least expect it, you get run over by a car. What happens then?”
And honestly, they’re right. They’re right in the sense that, it’s not worth it to stress over your health. It is never worth it.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not important to take care of it.
I believe it’s important to take care of your health because, first of all, taking care of your health usually gives you a better quality of life. So even if you don’t live forever, you can have a better time while you do.
Some people say that they don’t NEED to take care of their health. They believe that they’re perfectly “healthy” even if they lead a terrible lifestyle. They say that they’ve eaten junk food all their life, and they’re still perfectly okay. Some of them even have perfect cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels and all that. So how do you explain that? Well, I think that it’s great. It’s great that they’re able to be free from diseases without even taking care of their health. Because, I mean, that sounds pretty fun, doesn’t it?!
But the thing is, I don’t think it’s real. You might feel pretty healthy right now, but since you’re not taking care of your health, you might as well wake up tomorrow and have a heart attack. It could be tomorrow, or it could be 3 months from now, or it could be 10 years from now, or maybe it never happens. But that’s the thing. It’s just super unpredictable.
Because technically, you can lead an unhealthy lifestyle and still feel healthy for the rest of your life. It can happen and, it has happened, and it WILL continue to happen. Which is awesome. But there’s no way to know if it will happen to you. So why risk it?
Listen, the human body is amazing. It is capable of making your heart beat 115,200 times per day, every day. It is capable of ‘cleaning’ itself by making use of its internal cleansing mechanisms to get rid of waste products and toxins. It is capable of producing 300 billion new cells every single day. And much, much, much more! The human body is simply amazing.
So, you may have an amazing, strong, ‘bulletproof’ body right now, but that doesn’t mean it will stay that way forever. Your body is like a machine. If you treat it right, it will treat you right. And if you ever need motivation to treat it right, just think of all the incredible things your body does for you on a daily basis. It would only be fair if you take good care of it in return, don’t you think? :)
Another thing is that, a lot of people don’t feel motivated to treat their body right because they think they’re already doing it. They think that since they’re already “healthy”, there’s no need to improve their lifestyle. But that’s the problem. Many of them think they’re healthy when they’re actually not. Just because your cholesterol levels and your blood sugar levels are in check doesn’t mean you’re healthy. There’s so much more to health than just numbers.
Some people get daily headaches, or they’re always tired, or they suffer from foggy memory, etc. And a lot of them get used to it, so they think it’s normal and they don’t pay much attention to it. So it never occurs to them that maybe their lifestyle has something to do with it. — It isn’t always like this, though. Sometimes lifestyle has nothing to do with it. — But a lot of times (perhaps most of the time), it DOES.
Using conventional personal care products, eating processed foods too often, not drinking enough water, consuming too much of a certain food… It could all be contributing to their health problems. Even if they don’t know it.
Now, a lot of people argue that they weren’t “born to be health nerds”. They don’t think they’re capable of adopting a healthy lifestyle. They feel like it’s too much commitment, and they just don’t think it’s worth it. But you know what? It’s totally worth it. And it only gets easier as the days go by. Once you actually start doing your research, and once you actually start taking care of your health, you’ll see that the info you learn is fascinating, and you’ll see that the healthy habits you adopt make you feel way better than you did before.
And besides, you don’t have to go alllll the way and become a COMPLETE ‘health nerd’! You can just start by fixing certain aspects of your lifestyle, and work your way up little by little. There’s no need to stress over it. Just do what works best for you. :)
